The 5 Weirdest Anniversary Episodes

Nov. 10 3:01 PM by Dave Rudden

OMGLists celebrates its first anniversary this week! In order to pay the occasion justice, we've picked 5 anniversary episodes that were way more entertaining than the typical "husband forgets the date" plot thread.

5- The Simpsons- "Natural Born Kissers"

The Celebrators:

Homer and Marge Simpson

How it went wrong:

After a subpar anniversary dinner at Up, Up, And Buffet, Homer and Marge realize the magic has disappeared from their marriage. That magic is found when the couple is almost caught sneaking into a barn during a thunderstorm, and the animated couple realize they have a shared exhibitionist fetish, which is later tested when a semi-public tryst is discovered.

4- Family Guy- "Death Lives"

The Celebrators:

Peter and Lois Griffin

How it went wrong:

Sending his wife, Lois on a meaningless scavenger hunt on their anniversary, Peter Griffin spends his ill-gotten day off playing golf. Karma pays him back when he's struck by lightning, nearly killing him. An Adam Corolla-voiced Grim Reaper arrives to show him the error of his ways, showing Peter pivotal moments throughout his relationship with Lois. Peter eventually amends his ways with the help of Death himself and Peter Frampton.

3- Arrested Development- "Meat the Veals"

The Celebrators:

Oscar and Lucille Bluth, George Bluth Sr. and Lucille Bluth

How it went wrong:

On the anniversary of the incarcerated George Bluth Sr and his wife Lucille, both the husband and his identical twin brother set plans in motion to win her heart. Oscar plans on throwing a party to show his dedication to the family, while George--hiding out in the attic of the Bluth home--set out to renew their vows by kidnapping his wife and bringing her to the church. In the end, Oscar crashes the wedding reception, and earns Lucille's affections, while George uses the chaos of the confrontation to escape detection by the police.

2- Curb Your Enthusiasm- Season 4

The Celebrators:

Larry and Cheryl David

How it went wrong:

The entire fourth season of Larry David's fictionalized life centers around Cheryl's 10th anniversary gift to her husband--the promise of a one-time-only extramarital affair. Throughout the season, Larry tries to seal the deal with a dental hygienist, a frustrated Hasidic Jewish wife, a fellatio teacher, and his female co-star in "The Producers," ultimately failing at scoring with any of them. On a positive note, his performance in the Broadway show is a success.

1- South Park- "Butters' Very Own Episode"

The Celebrators:

Stephen and Linda Stoch, parents of Leopold "Butters" Stoch

How it went wrong:

In his quest to find the perfect anniversary gift for his parents, Butters accidentally pushes his parents to the brink of death. His discovery of his father's secret bath house addiction causes his mother to lose her mind and drive her son into a creek, Susan Smith-style. Fortunately, Butters survives and the anniversary beckons his return home in time to save his family and attend their anniversary dinner at Bennigans.
